Why I Started The Task Friend (It Began Long Before the Business Did)

There’s an old proverb that says:
“If you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else.”
That simple idea has quietly shaped my life for as long as I can remember.
For me, The Task Friend is much more than a business. It isn’t simply a job or a service I provide.
It’s my purpose.
Helping people has always felt meaningful to me, and that journey began long before I ever imagined owning this business.
Where It All Began
As a young girl, I spent countless hours helping my grandmother around her apartment.
We folded laundry together, organized closets, cleaned out cabinets, rearranged furniture, sorted her pantry, cooked meals, prepared for yard sales, and worked on whatever project she happened to have that day.
At the time, I didn’t think of it as work.
I simply loved helping her.
Looking back now, I realize those moments taught me something that has stayed with me throughout my life—that helping someone accomplish everyday tasks can be one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to show you care.
The Neighbors Started Asking
Something unexpected happened.
The other residents in my grandmother’s apartment community noticed me helping her.
Before long, they began asking if I could help them, too.
One gentleman who used a wheelchair asked if I could reorganize his kitchen cabinets.
Another neighbor wanted help unloading groceries and putting everything away.
Someone else needed assistance organizing their home.
Each small job came with a few dollars of spending money, and at the time, it felt like earning extra allowance.
Looking back, I see something much more important.
Those neighbors weren’t simply paying me.
They were trusting me.
They welcomed me into their homes, shared the everyday tasks they found difficult to manage alone, and allowed me to be part of making their lives just a little easier.
I didn’t realize it then, but they were planting the seeds for the business I would one day create.
My First Small Business
After graduating from high school, I started my own residential and commercial cleaning business in my hometown.
For the next three years, helping families and local businesses became my full-time career.
I loved knowing that my clients could come home to a clean, comfortable space after a long day.
Eventually, life took me in a different direction. After getting married, I closed my business and began working in retail, later building a career in sales, business development, small business ownership, and web design.
But one thing never changed.
I never stopped finding joy in helping people.
Coming Full Circle
More than twenty years after closing my first business, life brought me back to the same calling that began in my grandmother’s apartment.
Opening The Task Friend feels like coming full circle.
It’s my opportunity to serve my community in a way that reflects who I’ve always been.
Whether I’m helping someone organize a closet, unpack moving boxes, shop for groceries, prepare for an event, tackle an estate cleanout, or simply work through an overwhelming to-do list, the goal is always the same.
To help life feel a little more manageable.
